Although it has been horribly hot outside these last few weeks, it has been beautiful outside. I love the sunshine. My kids love the sunshine. Time to buy some Dansko sandals and go to the beach! Ha! I would love to go to the beach, the only sand I have seen in a long time is the sand that is currently in my kids sandbox. Pitiful I know.
Moving on to another subject, Ice Age in 3D comes out Wednesday! My son is super excited! I love being able to take them to the movies now, it is so fun. I am just praying that this time goes as well as last time, and that Gavin doesn’t freak out. Laura, my 2 year old, will enjoy it as well….at least I hope.

Join us in our efforts to support Walk Now for Autism!
“Your child has autism.”
They are words that a new family will hear every 20 minutes.
These four simple words define the facts. They are useful in explaining the past but they do not predict the future.
By participating in this event, our hope is that we will soon hear “Your child no longer has autism.”

On October 17th we will join Walk Now for Autism. Please visit our sponsor page by clicking here . You will be redirected to the WalkNowForAutism.org website. Our family goal is to raise $1000 to go towards Autism research. Through our personal experiences, we know that more help is needed. More education is needed. More resources are needed. Eric, Gavin, Laura and I will be walking, and any amount of sponsorship is greatly appreciated!

Laura, my 2 year old, beautiful baby girl, had her final evaluation completed at Vanderbilt last Tuesday. The evaluation lasted almost 4 hours! Eric, Gavin and I attended as well. Laura was so cranky around the 3 hour mark, but after some apple juice and graham crackers she was back to her bouncy ways. It was hard to hear the diagnoses that came after all of the testing, but Eric and I knew already what the doctor was going to tell us. Laura was diagnosed with Autism. Not the end of the world. Our daughter is just extremely intelligent, healthy and beautiful. We are blessed that we have two healthy children. They are happy and that is all that matters to us. Gavin is doing so well, and we know that his sister will follow in his footsteps. We are extremely proud of our children, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. I am thankful to have them both in my life, we are so blessed.

"Spaghetti night done right"
Laura is a very picky eater. Most autistic children are. No big deal really, but it can be frustrating at times. She loves her spaghetti, that is no lie. If we don’t watch it she will have to take diet pills when she is older due to all of the spaghetti she eats. Ha!I doubt that seriously. Both of our kids are picky eaters, so they both are tiny, and will probably be tiny their whole life. Sometimes it literally can take an hour for Gavin to eat his meal. He chews so slow, and likes to pack his cheeks with food. Maybe he is saving it for later. Who knows!

Going to church hasn’t always been an easy task for me. I have always felt that for most people, not all, church is a social event. A place to meet people, make friends and such. I think some people really loose the meaning of what they are really there for. Growing up I went to church almost every Sunday with my grandmother. I always felt like I wasn’t good enough to be there. Especially when I was a pre-teen. Most of the other kids were too busy talking about what they bought and what they had, most of them were spoiled brats. The rich kids would all group together and talk about the other kids, as if the others weren’t good enough to be in the same room. There were always cliques at church, something that I never understood. It wasn’t high school, but it sure felt like it.
I have recently found a great online church. Sounds a bit silly, or even lazy, but it is the best thing that has happened to me in a long time. It is a place I can learn and discover, without being judged. It is also very neat, I get to join thousands around the world on Sunday morning to worship, how many people can get to say that they do that? And the best part is I can go to church in my pajamas! There is a place to chat with all that are attending. It is very exciting!

So the kids and I went to see “Up” in 3D. We had a blast! At first things didn’t look so good. Gavin was freaking out once we got inside the movie theater and he immediately started searching for the exit signs. We have tried many times in the past to take the kids to the movies, but Gavin is extremely scared of loud sounds. This time I had to coach him in, but I knew I could do it. I knew I could take my two babies to the movies, and we would have a good time. After having a “pep talk” out in the hallway with him, I was able to get him into the theater and up to the back row of seats. After finding our seat I gave him his pair of “magic 3D glasses”. He seemed to calm down a bit. I think sitting in the back really helped him. He covered his ears and closed his eyes a few times, but over all he really enjoyed the movie and the whole experience. Laura, my 2 year old, also loved the movie. She sat there the whole time just watching, never making a peep. I was really proud of both of them. I hope next time we can include their father in our trip to the movies.

My treadmill is collecting dust in our closet for now. It has been so beautiful out that we are walking around the neighborhood for now. My children love getting to go on walks daily. When we get back from walking the kids are so tired! There is no point in having your fitness equipment out during the summer. Why exercise indoors when it is so nice out? My son, who is 5, really enjoys our daily walks and he looks forward to our walk every day. We hate rainy days!
Since the weather has been really nice lately I thought about getting the kids a sandbox, which I think they would really enjoy. Although I wouldn’t enjoy the sand that they would get everywhere! Ha! But what really counts is if they have fun, and that is all that really matters, I can clean up the sand.
Gavin’s birthday is right around the corner! The stuff I purchased from Ikea for him has arrived, I have just got to go pick it up. I think he will be very pleased with his easel and such. He is an artist at heart!

Eric and I found a great deal, close to home, on an imac G4, so we went ahead and purchased it. The kids were sleeping when the couple delivered it to the house, so I thought I had a little time to play with it. Gavin woke up 20 min later. His birthday isn’t until late June, and we had planned to put it away until then. There was absolutely no way I could hide it, so I ended up explaining to him that he was going to get his birthday gift almost a month early this year, his main gift at least.

"At the age of 5, Gavin is a proud Mac owner."
He has only “owned” his computer for a few hours now, but he already loves it. His jealous sister keeps trying to see it and he tells her that it is HIS computer, and asks her not to touch. She is 2, so she continues to touch. I am just glad that I didn’t have to leave my house to go get it. I am really bummed that Circuit City is no longer around, just in case Gavin needs new speakers or keyboard for his new computer. I am sure he will continue to like his new Apple computer, and I can’t wait until his airport card comes in so he will have the internet!

My 2 year old can eat just as much as my 5 year old. Below is what I fixed them both for breakfast, and it is almost guaranteed that Laura, the 2 year old, will out eat her big brother.

Gavin has eaten like a bird since the day he was born. He stays so skinny! We have tried everything to get him to eat better. When Laura was 1 she was out eating him. Maybe he is just going to be a skinny little boy who doesn’t like to eat a whole lot. He will grow up fast enough, and I wouldn’t want him to look back on his childhood and think about how his parents were always trying to get him to eat, ha. It feel like that is all his father and I do. “Eat Gavin, eat.”

"Not so patiently waiting on their breakfast."
One day he will be a teenager needing acne treatment just like the rest, and maybe his appetite will be better then. One can only hope. It seems as Laura is now eating less and less and we are afraid she is following in her brothers footsteps! We just want them to eat balanced, healthy meals…..sometimes we just want them to just eat something, anything, even if it is something that isn’t high in nutrients or vitamins.

"Still half asleep....can you tell?"

I am the proud owner of a brand new pearl necklace.
It was handcrafted by the most talented designer I know…. my son.

He wants me to wear it all of the time, but it is a bit scratchy. I guess paper isn’t very easy on the skin, and the wire in the pipe cleaner isn’t very gentle either. Looks like the pig, who I think is “Olivia” from a show they like, could use some diet supplement. But in all seriousness, it is beautiful in my eyes. I believe his father helped him when he was creating this masterpiece, which adds to the value of this fine piece of jewelry.Five year old children are just fantastic. One day he will be all “grown up” and I will remember back to days like this. Hopefully he will not grow up too fast!

I have never understood why a pair of shoes can cost so much. We wear them on our feet, well at least most of us do. We walk on concrete, grass and such. We step in gum, dog poop and everything else imaginable. It is just crazy to me that a nice pair of women’s shoes cost hundreds of dollars! I can’t stand paying more than one hundred dollars for a pair of shoes, which will more than likely last no longer than a year. Most of the time you are paying for the name, not quality. I find a brand that I like, and that I know will last, and I stick with that brand. I am a firm believer in not paying very much for a pair of child shoes, because they don’t get much wear out of them at all! My little Laura, who is 2, hasn’t worn a pair of shoes longer than 6 months! Her feet grow so stinking fast! I can’t imagine paying big money for a pair of shoes for a child, just so that they can wear them for such a short period of time. What a waste of money!
Some crazy Japanese shoes....
probably cost thousands of dollars!
Would you wear them?
I am sure it would be incredibly hard to walk in those things!
