So for some strange reason I two calls back to back this morning from Vanderbilt. I could not answer it because I was working, and they did not leave a voice mail. I wonder what the heck it was about. At least they weren’t trying to sell me acne pills, or at least I hope they weren’t. I guess it could have been the billing department, or someone calling in regards to Laura’s classes? Who knows. Probably calling me about the big 40 bucks I owe to them for the remaining balance of the “diagnoses” that Gavin never got. Some horrible doctor, that should not be a doctor, out at Vanderbilt charged us over $1,400 to tell us that he simply does not have a clue what is going on with Gavin. $1,400!!! What a joke! And did I mention that we were on the “waiting list” for over 6 months?!?! They spend a total of 2 hours with our son, that is $700 per hour?! What a rip-off. I am thinking about taking my complaints with this whole thing a little further. I am not sure who to contact with a complaint, but I am going to bring this matter to someones attention!
Starting Monday, October 13th, I will start parent classes at Vanderbilt. I believe I will be in a class with other parents with children that are between 15 - 25 months old that are at high risk for Autism. As of right now I believe there are going to be around 8 other sets of mothers or fathers that will be in the class as well. The teacher of the class came out to the house Friday and took some video of Laura’s every day activities, such as snack time and play time. She also brought my “text book”, which is HUGE. This book weighs a ton. It almost overwhelms me a bit. The crazy thing about this whole deal is that Laura seems to be getting better with her eye contact and she is trying to talk now, saying only a few words. I almost feel like Gavin is getting worse. I am so thankful that we decided to not get Laura’s MMR vaccine, as I seriously feel that she would be worse off had we done it. Gavin has gone back to having to have this tiny ball of fuzz to roll between his fingers and stim off of all of the time. BUT..it keeps him calm, and helps him get to sleep better, so in no way are we going to take it away from him. I have actually found myself running to the clothes dryer and getting some lint to roll into a small ball for him when he looses his fuzz ball. He once was ripping one of my quilts to get the cotton out of it to roll into a small ball. It drove me crazy! We are currently having a hard time getting him to eat when it comes time for dinner. We usually would sit around and pretty much tell him he could not get up until he ate it all, which would end in a crying fit, so we have decided to not force him to eat. It is better on everyone. It is so fustrating to get upset with him, when we can explain to him why we are, because he doesn’t understand, and he can’t explain to us why he doesn’t want to eat whatever it is in front of him. Sometimes we just feel LOST. I am just so THANKFUL that we found them both a new doctor. He is wonderful. Laura is getting a ton of early intervention, which is a blessing. I just wish at this point there were more options to help us with Gavin. He has prescribed medicine for ADHD, but I can’t bring myself to go get it filled and actually give it to him. Part of me would feel like I am “druging” him, and that is the last thing I want. He is having more crying fits, and seems to be stuck in his speech. Hopefully we can get him into some speech therapy, which he really needs.
So I went ahead and drove 30 min away and purchased this for Gavin for an early birthday present. Of course his sister likes it more than he does.

Eric and I have decided that time-out would be the best discipline for Gavin. We are looking for a “time-out chair” to purchase. I need a seriously heavy child’s chair, so heavy that Gavin cannot pick it up himself, or he will turn it around and watch television! I wish it would be easy to find one that we want, too bad I cannot just pick up a furniture catalog and find one in it!
Yes, Laura is almost 1! That makes me so happy, and so sad, all at once. My last baby is growing up. I can’t believe it has been that long! It will be one year on March 8th. It just felt like we just came home from the hospital. This year has gone so fast! Maybe since we are getting older, and since we have two children, that we don’t have time to sit and think about time anymore, it just flies right past us. I found a place to get invitations for her birthday bash, they also carry communion invitations! I am not sure where or when we will have her small birthday bash, since we will be in the process of moving that week. Maybe we will have it at the new place once we are settled in.
So yesterday we went to a birthday party, there was a clown there. Gavin loved it, but I personally think the clown was crazy. She would sing real loud, and look at the adults all crazy. Maybe next year we will get Gavin a clown or a magician for his birthday, I think he would enjoy it.
On another note, it is time to start saving for Christmas. I hate the financial burden it places on us, but Christmas is still a great time of year. This year we have two children to buy for, which really will not be that much more. I think for Laura we will get her the Laugh and Learn Kitchen, and maybe a few other small things. For Gavin we were thinking about getting him a Playstation 2 to replace his old Playstation 1. He needs something new to play with, he seems tired of all of his old games. I am excited to decorate and put up the tree with Gavin this year, he really enjoyed it last year.
We have decided to keep Gavin home from school today. First we were going to keep him out a few days because they sent home a letter Friday stating that MRSA (staph infection) had been confirmed in his school. But,he was sick all last night, and doesn’t seem any better this morning. About the whole staph infection, I wish the school board would just have a better plan of action. Just telling us that they are taking the steps to clean better isn’t enough. I want a detailed plan of action, and the name of the company that will be going in there and sanitizing the place. My children are just too precious to come into contact with that due to lack of sanitary measures on the schools part. I might be a germ freak, but that is better than being completely nasty. Lol!
So I just received the locket I ordered a while back. The locket itself is really pretty. I even had Laura’s name and birthday engraved on the back. I am just a little dissapointed in how the picture turned out. I just wished I had picked out a better picture. I had no idea that they would crop everything around her head out. It makes her head look funny. I plan to order gold lockets for my mother and grandmother for Christmas. I will just put the kids pictures in myself when they arrive. I have never seen my mother wear any kind of locket, but she was just so in love with this locket that I decided to get her one.

So, Gavin loved the black Spiderman costume that we got him, so we went back and got him the “original” Spiderman costume yesterday. He loves it as well. We had to run to about a million different places so Eric could find some shoes, and Gavin decided to wear his costume, and who were we to stop him? I must say he was a hit with all of the smaller kids. He got a lot of attention. It was pretty funny. We heard lots of “Hey! It is Spiderman!”. Gavin is goofy!

Well, it is a known fact that Gavin loves Spiderman. After looking around in the kids bedding section the other day I decided that he needs some new Spiderman decor for his room. He has mostly decor from the movie “Cars”. Almost everything we bought him for Christmas last year had Lighting McQueen on it somewhere. He is due to start school within the next week, so we might go this week and let him pick out a few new things for his room.
I am so excited! Laura finally has grown enough hair that hair bows will now latch on without her having to wear a headband! We went out yesterday and bought her tons of cute little bows. She looks so cute! I cannot wait for little pig-tails!

So last night we all took a trip to Wal-Mart where Gavin found his Halloween costume. They have all of the Halloween stuff out and I love it! Fall is the best time of the year, in my opinion! I love Halloween and Thanksgiving!
So Laura is still going through the whole “teething” issue. I thought that we had bought the right medicine for her to make it easier on all of us, but the medicine isn’t working! She just cries and screams. For the most part she just “bitches” a lot. I just got her down for a nap, so I can get a little break!
Gavin is going to start school very soon, I just wish they could call us and give us some information on why it is taking so long to place him. They said it would take 30 days max, they have 8 days left, by law. I am excited for him to go and learn! I think he will have a blast!
So little Laura’s first two teeth are coming in. One on the bottom right, and one on the top left. They are absolutely making her miserable! I called Eric yesterday while he was still at work and gave him a whole list of things to get on his way home. He bought some infant’s ibuprofen, baby Orajel, and some teething tablets. I actually believe the teething tablets are working great. She has periods where she wakes in the night, and I just slip two tablets in her mouth and she is back sleeping within ten minutes or so. I never had any problems with Gavin when it came to teething, it just never bothered him at all. I feel bad for Laura, and I hope they just bust through and get it over with!
